Welcome to Algorave Singapore

Singapore's first Algorave chapter is live. Here's what we're building, who it's for, and how to get involved — whether you're a musician, visual artist, or just curious.

Welcome to Algorave Singapore

After months of planning, late-night jam sessions, and more than a few broken SuperCollider patches, we're officially live.

Algorave Singapore is the city-state's first chapter of the global Algorave movement — a community of musicians, visual artists, and curious humans who make art by writing code in real time, in public, in front of an audience.

What is an Algorave?

An Algorave is a performance event where everything you hear and see is generated live by code. No pre-recorded tracks. No pre-rendered visuals. Just a performer, a laptop, a projector showing their screen, and an audience watching the art get written in real time.

The music is typically made with tools like Tidal Cycles or Strudel.cc. The visuals come from Hydra, p5.js, or raw GLSL shaders. The code is projected so the audience can follow along — the process is the performance.

It's part rave, part coding session, part art installation.

Why Singapore?

Singapore sits at the intersection of Southeast Asia's most vibrant creative and tech communities. We have world-class infrastructure, a dense population of musicians and developers, and a culture that's increasingly hungry for experimental art that doesn't fit neatly into existing categories.

Live coding is that art. It's underground enough to feel genuine, accessible enough that anyone with a laptop can start today, and technically interesting enough to attract people who've never thought of themselves as artists.

We want to build a community here that's welcoming to both sides: the electronic musicians who want to push their practice into new territory, and the developers and visual artists who want to make something that moves people.

What We're Building

Our first events are already scheduled. We're planning:

  • Monthly performance nights — intimate venues, projected code, live sound and visuals
  • Workshops — hands-on sessions with Tidal Cycles, Strudel.cc, and Hydra for all skill levels
  • Open calls — regular opportunities for new performers to get on stage
  • Online community — a space to share patches, ask questions, and collaborate

How to Get Involved

You don't need to be an expert. You don't need to have performed before. You need a laptop and curiosity.

If you make music: Check out Strudel.cc — it runs in your browser, no install required. You can be making patterns in under ten minutes.

If you make visuals: Hydra is the equivalent — a browser-based live coding environment for video synthesis. Equally immediate, equally powerful.

If you're neither: Come to an event. Watch. Ask questions. The community is welcoming and the performances are genuinely unlike anything else happening in Singapore right now.

Head to our Events page to see what's coming up, or check out the Resources page for a full list of tools and tutorials to get started.

See you on stage.
